Design
Based on the classic 1913 "Buffalo nickel" designed by renowned sculptor James Earle Fraser, the obverse features a classic profile of a Native American, while the reverse features a majestic buffalo.
Three men---Chief Iron Tail, Chief Big Tree and Chief Two Moons---sat for Fraser as he designed the original Buffalo Nickel coin. The buffalo that modeled for Fraser was a denizen of New York City's Central Park Zoo.
